The Design Review Committee reviews submitted applications at its regular meeting, held every other Thursday.

Decision & appeal
The committee approves, conditionally approves, or denies your application in writing. If denied, you may file a Notice of Appeal.
What to include in your application
Every DRC application needs the items below; some project types need a bit more.
- Completed DRC application form (incomplete applications are rejected)
- Two (2) copies of the entire application packet
- Professionally drawn, scaled plans (minimum 1/8" scale), stamped by a Hawaii-licensed architect where applicable (plans without a scale are returned without review)
- Site plan (min 1/8") showing construction, adjacent walls/fences, buildings, driveway, setbacks, pools/spas, equipment, utilities, drainage, grades, and A/C & trash screening
- Architectural/elevation plans: floor layouts, roof, materials, elevations, cross-sections, wall tops/bottoms, fences, hardscape, and landscape
- Exterior color brush-outs, minimum 8.5x11 on white cardstock, with an elevation or photo showing where each color goes, each color numbered
- Product spec sheets or brochures (roofing, siding, trim, etc.)
- Signed Exhibit O: Owner Certificate of Compliance (all owners)
- Signed Exhibit D: Contractor Registration (license number and contacts)
- Design review fee: check payable to "Maui Lani Community Association" (non-refundable)
- Grading & drainage plan, stamped by an engineer (required if the project alters the ground)If applicable
- Landscape plan (min 1/8"), prepared by a licensed landscape architect or contractor (required if landscaping is part of the project)If applicable
Exterior paint also needs:
- Color chip brush-outs on white cardstock, each color numbered
- Elevation or photo showing exactly where each color goes
- Base, trim, and roof colors that complement each other
- Design review fee: $75
Solar / PV also needs:
- Contractor-stamped plans
- Site, roof, and elevation plans showing existing and proposed panels plus conduit/pipe runs
- Written description of how equipment will be screened from view
- Panel, inverter, and mounting spec sheets
- Signed owner agreement to finish or hide any exposed exterior metal
- Solar inspection fee: $50 (+$50 per additional visit; $200 fine for non-compliance)
Addition / new construction also needs:
- Two-step review: preliminary approval, then final approval after the county building permit is issued
- Signed Exhibits A (schedule), B (construction rules), C (drainage/erosion), plus D, O, and P
- After preliminary approval: county building permit, county-stamped plans, and final working drawings
- $4,000 compliance deposit (new homes)
- Scheduled inspections: staking, rough framing, final, and landscape
Fees vary by project type. See the fee schedule and forms below (fees are subject to change at DRC discretion).

The DRC responds within 20 business days; decisions are in writing only, never verbal, and approval is valid for 1 year. You're responsible for obtaining any required county permits.
